The southernmost part of Poland is wedged between Ukraine and Slovakia. It is also one of the least populated, partly because of the ethnic cleansing that the communists subjected the Łemko minority to in the 40s and 50s.

The Bieszczady mountains are one of the most peaceful parts of the country now, with the only concentration of tourism around the artificial Solina lake (Jezioro Solińskie). Above it there are mountain ranges called połonina, with flat peaks that feel like elevated promenades.
