Now that the Polish Presidency of the EU Council has come to an end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will ensure that unused materials are put to good use.
A lot of the material, such as publications promoting Poland, gifts and gadgets, will be further used in the ongoing work of the Foreign Ministry and other institutions in diplomatic and cultural projects. Someof it will be distributed free of charge to social partners and charities.
Materials that are not suitable for further use have been sent for organic recycling, for which purpose the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signed an agreement with Aeris Futuro Foundation in Cracow, who joined the group of members of the Friends of the Presidency Club. The foundation’s role is to coordinate the collection of waste left over from meetings of the Presidency and recycle it.
The first batch of waste, totalling 680 kg, was collected today by the Warsaw-based association EKON Disabled for the Environment, recommended by the foundation.Further batches of waste will be collected over the coming days. The Foreign Ministry is joined in the project by the Health, Environment and Education ministries.
In the spring, a symbolic tree-planting, with the number of trees corresponding to the value of recycled waste, is planned.
As part of their cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aeris Futuro Foundation will also prepare a contribution to the Presidency’s final report as well as training materials, so the Polish Presidency’s good ecological practices (the Green Presidency project) can be shared with interested countries. The experience of the Presidency in organising green meetings and using green materials will also be recommended as standard practice for public institutions in the future.
